That creamy desert you want
We are delighted to present a timepiece that has become a collector's favorite: the iconic Rolex Explorer II reference 16550, featuring the beloved cream dial. Produced during a transitional period from 1985 to 1989, the 16550 marked a significant departure from its predecessor, the 1655, with a completely new aesthetic.
Unlike the previous matte black dials adorned with uniquely styled markers, the 16550 offered a design more akin to the GMT series, in black, white, and the enchanting cream. There's debate among enthusiasts, some believe a specific production run yielded cream dials, while others think these dials acquired their distinctive coloring due to a paint defect. Regardless, these watches are undeniably stunning, and extraordinary examples can be found, like this exquisite piece originally sold in Amsterdam in 1985.
This watch remains in remarkable condition, boasting a gorgeous patina on the tritium plots that complements the cream dial. It retains a robust, well-preserved case with even lugs and a tight bracelet. The watch is accompanied by its original sale papers from Elka in Amsterdam and Rolex service papers, along with the wallet, translation booklet, hangtag, and sticker showing the original sale price. Notably, the bezel was replaced during a service by Rolex Germany in 2004 with a service example.
Historically, the Explorer II has been considered an underdog within the Rolex sports family, yet it is so stylish and appealing. These watches make the perfect summer watch. We look forward to discussing this exceptional timepiece with you.
